Course Overview
Petroleum engineering is primarily concerned with the economic extraction of oil, gas, and other energy resources from the earth. This is accomplished through the design, drilling, and operation of wells and well systems, and the integrated management of the underground reservoirs in which the resources are found. The Harold Vance department of petroleum engineering at Texas A&M University is currently one of the top petroleum engineering programs in the United States. According to US News and World Report, the petroleum engineering department at Texas A&M University is the 1st undergraduate and the 2nd graduate petroleum engineering program in the United States. The department currently enrolls more than 500 undergraduate students, 160 MSc students and 50 PhD students. To date, Texas A&M University has awarded more than 4100 BSc (since 1931), 800 MSc (since 1951) and 200 PhD degrees (since 1953) in petroleum engineering. Texas A&M University branch campus in Qatar, since its establishment in 2003, has offered petroleum engineering degrees at BSc level. There are currently 82 undergraduate students (51 male and 31 female) enrolled in the petroleum engineering program. The program currently has 8 faculty members and is equipped with state-of-the-art lab and computing facilities.
