This exciting one day masterclass will focus on the pioneering practices and experiences of the Cambridge Breathlessness Intervention Service. This interdisciplinary service is based on the holistic Breathing, Thinking, Functioning Model. The programme will be led by Dr Sara Booth, a prominent clinician and researcher of international renown. Dr Booth will share her expertise in the clinical management of breathlessness and her experience in novel service development, design and evaluation. Learning will be facilitated through a series of lectures and practical hands on workshops.
Topics will include:
- Assessment and management of breathlessness in malignant and non-malignant disease.
- Drug treatments and current evidence re opioids and benzodiazepines.
- Oxygen therapy indicators and limitations.
- Practical tools to support patients:
- Teaching breathing and anxiety management techniques.
- Pacing, planning and prioritizing their activities.
- Mindfulness techniques - skills to support the psychological wellbeing and resilience of patients and families.
- Service development hints and tips - UK and Irish perspectives.
