    Course Description

    Overview

    The purpose of this award is to enable the learner to acquire the required knowledge, skill and competence in the theory, principles, and practice of management within a range of contexts and to enable the learner to work independently or in a management capacity and or to progress to higher education or training.

    Requirements

    The requirements for entry to the Management Level 6 Major Award are, Â FETAC/QQI Level 5 award or equivalent qualifications and/or relevant life experience.

    Course

    There are 8 programme modules in this programme. Upon successful completion of the 8 programme modules the learner may achieve the required 120 credits for a level 6 FETAC major award. Management 6M4587. The programme is suitable for school-leavers and for experienced mature persons seeking a formal qualification.

    Overall the programme is based on a duration of 1200 hours (typical learner effort), to include both directed and self-directed learning. Participants will be required to attend a four hour class once a week for 7 weeks plus three 7.5 hour day workshops per component module. The overall programme (award) duration is 80 weeks or 2 years.

    This award will provide learners with opportunities to transfer and progress to programmes leading to higher education and training awards.

    Assessment

    The assessment process includes a combination of module appropriate assessment procedures which will facilitate the assessment of learning outcomes of this course. These methods will include continuous assessment processes such as:

    Assignment – An assignment is usually carried out over an extended period of time and the assignment brief will require candidates to show:

    • An understanding and application of concepts.
    • A selection of relevant research techniques and sources of information.
    • An ability to analyse, evaluate, draw conclusions and make recommendations.

    Skills Demonstration – A skills demonstration is used to assess a wide range of practical based learning outcomes including practical skills and knowledge. A skills demonstration will require the learner to complete a task or series of tasks that demonstrate a range of skills.

    Examination – A supervised exam will take place at a time to be confirmed by the tutor. This will be a supervised exam after the completion of the module. This which will assess the learners ability to recall, apply theory and show an understanding of the different concepts drawn from the module.

    Portfolio – A portfolio is usually carried out over an extended period of time. Portfolios may involve research, require investigation of a topic, issue or problem or may involve process such as a design task, a performance or practical activity or production of an artefact or event.

    Learner Record – This course is assessed through completion of a number of activities and completion of a personal Learner Record which records your experience of supervision in a childcare context. This will cover planning of initiatives, making decisions, in addition to demonstrating your supervision and organisational skills. All work submitted must be your own work.

    Grading: Pass 50% – 64% / Merit 65% – 79%/ Distinction 80% – 100%
