Introduction
This course aims to provide learners with the practical skills and knowledge to assess how the body responds to sport and physical activity. Gain an insight into how the human body operates at rest and during exercise and assist people with physical activity and health changes.
Entry Requirements
Leaving Certificate with 5 passes or Leaving Certificate Applied or equivalent. For mature students applications may be considered based on a proven interest in sport science. Entry may be subject to interview and depends on satisfactory Garda Vetting.

Course Structure
As part of their training, learners will complete studies on the major systems of the body, gain expertise in testing and analysing athletes, develop a greater understanding of how the human body reacts to exercise, complete laboratory based studies and apply concepts in practical sessions in a gym setting.
Career Options | Progression
Successful completion of a QQI Level 5 Certificate in Laboratory Techniques allows progression to a variety of sports science and related courses in Institutes of Technology/Universities. There are also excellent opportunities for students to advance to employment in a variety of sporting positions in physical activity, sport development, youth work and health promotion.
