Introduction

This course aims to provide learners with the practical skills and knowledge to instruct people in the sports, coaching and leisure industry. Gain a qualification to work in an industry with real rewards and change people’s lives on a daily basis.

Entry Requirements

Leaving Certificate with 5 passes or Leaving Certificate Applied or equivalent. For mature students applications may be considered based on a proven interest in sport. Entry may be subject to interview and depends on satisfactory Garda Vetting. Ability to swim is preferable.

Course Structure

As part of the training, learners will complete a Certificate in Fitness Instructing and complete fitness testing, instruct exercise classes, prescribe exercise, complete national and international qualifications and gain invaluable exposure to the leisure industry during work placement.

There will be additional costs involved for specialised training/gym membership etc. Work Experience forms an integral part of the course.

Career Options | Progression

Sports, Recreation & Exercise Level 5 graduates may progress to a QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Sports, Recreation & Exercise or to further studies on selected courses at Institutes of Technology/Universities. Alternatively, you may gain direct access to the leisure industry at assistant level in leisure centres, swimming pools and health centres or as an assistant coach/instructor.
