Course details

This course is designed for all employees and guests who work on or near equipment in which the unexpected energizing or start up of the machines or equipment, or release of stored energy could cause injury to employees above human vulnerability limits. This includes all the servicing, maintenance, modification, calibration, and repair functions.

The course is also designed to define Lockout/Tagout responsibilities, acceptable practices, and procedures with respect to safety and compliance. The course stresses specific approved techniques, tools, equipment, and line management and supervision responsibilities.

This standard establishes minimum performance requirements for the control of such hazardous energy. The information covered in this session includes the steps in the Lock-Out/Tag-Out and the affected employee's part in the procedure. Also, you'll be provided information on the locks and tags that are used.

 The purpose and importance of LOTO
 Isolators - electrical, mechanical, process, etc.
 Lock-out devices (where lockable energy isolator).
 Tag-out devices - where isolator cannot be locked.
 Single vs multiple LOTO.
 Explain sources of hazardous energy
 Describe arc flash
 Energy control procedures
 Protective materials and hardware
 Authorized and Affected employees
 Outline guarding requirements
 Describe the use of insulation
 Describe the use of personal protective equipment
 Identify energy sources for common machinery and equipment:
 De-energise, restrain, disconnect, etc. Outline the procedure for applying and removing LOTO

Assessment:  Students are assessed throughout the course by instructor

observation.   Before and after written assessment/exam will be conducted.

Certificate:     NAJMA certificate of attendance, valid for 2 years, issued on completion of the assessment.
