Course details
This module will focus on developing an in-depth understanding of the concept of literacy. The module will provide the participant with an overview of literacy, focusing in particular on the areas of reading and writing. It will also enable the participant to develop an understanding and knowledge of assessment procedures with regard to literacy and to critically appraise strategies and approaches to developing literacy.

Literacy has been highlighted as a priority in theLiteracy and Numeracy for Learning and Life: The National Strategy to Improve Literacy and Numeracy among Children and Young People 2011-2020(DES, 2011). St Angela’s College has responded to this strategy through the development of a module on Literacy. This module will focus on developing an in-depth understanding of the concept of literacy. It will provide the participant with an overview of literacy, focusing in particular on the areas of reading and writing. It will also enable the participant to develop an understanding and knowledge of assessment procedures with regard to literacy and to critically appraise strategies and approaches to developing literacy.
