Course details

This course provides a more detailed look at the Linux operating system. This course is aimed at learners who have some experience with Linux and want to further their knowledge or who have completed Linux 1 at CCT.

Programme Aims and Objectives

This course aims to provide a deeper look at the Linux operating system in both the desktop and server environments. Once this course is completed the learner will be able to:

  • Assess the most appropriate Linux distribution to use
  • Download, install and configure a Linux distribution
  • Review the current hardware device drivers and resolve outstanding issues
  • Monitor system resources in real time
  • Develop custom scripts to retrieve current variables and states

This course is provides the learner with a detailed look at the Linux operating system and scripting. Topics covered during this course include:

  • Download and install a Linux distribution of choice
  • Review the current installed Kernel
  • Compiling a Linux kernel
  • Retrieving system variables
  • Monitoring system usage
  • User account creation and control
  • File permissions
  • Shell scripting
  • Network diagnostics
  • Advanced package management
  • Scheduling tasks with cron
