Entry Requirements and Application Procedures
Students who have completed the FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Agriculture, or equivalent course,are eligible to apply. Apply directly to Gurteen College. Selection for places is by interview.
Course Aims
This course provides students with the latest technology, information and management skill necessary for a career in tillage farming and bio-energy crop production. The course is suitable for those:
- Preparing to take over the family tillage farm
- Seeking further training in farm management and bio-energy crops
- Seeking employment in the agri-business service sector
- Progressing to higher education.
Course Structure and Content
Students complete a 12-week practical learning period. Course work (20 weeks) is delivered by Gurteen College. The course content includes machinery operation and maintenance, bio-energy crops, crop husbandry and financial management. The course includes field trips and outside involvement from the industry.On successful completion of the programme students are awarded a FETAC Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Agriculture. This award meets the training requirements for Stamp Duty Exemption.
Progression
Students may consider progression to higher education programmes.

About Clare Teagasc Training Centre - Ennis
Teagasc – the Agriculture and Food Development Authority – is the national body providing integrated research, advisory and training services to the agriculture and food industry and rural communities. It was established in September 1988 under the Agriculture (Research, Training and Advice) Act, 1988.
The organisation is funded by State Grant-in-Aid; the National Development Plan 2007 to 2013; fees for research, advisory and training services; income from national and EU competitive research programmes; and revenue from farming activities and commodity levies.
