Course details

The Level 5 Certificate in Forestry course provides a sound understanding of the fundamental knowledge and the essential skills required for those involved in forestry operations.

The course is aimed at those who are:

  • Looking to expand or update their skills and training
  • Looking to improve career prospects
  • Looking to obtain a recognised qualification
  • Looking to advance to higher education

On completion of a course the participants will be competent in a range of relevant areas including carrying out safe work practices, communicating effectively and developing career skills.

Entry Requirements and Application Procedures

There is no minimum educational requirement for the course but applicants who have achieved a leaving certificate standard of education are likely to benefit most. All applicants will be interviewed and will need to demonstrate an interest in the subject. Applicants must be over 17 years on 1st January following entry to the course. Mature students are welcome.

About Ballyhaise Agricultural College

Ballyhaise College is located 8km north of Cavan town on an estate of 220 hectares of grassland and is a leading provider of training in Agriculture and Forestry. Close links have been developed with the local Institute of Technology in Dundalk (DkIT). This has facilitated the development of progression to third level (HETAC) ctheirses and has greatly enhanced the provision of agricultural education in the North East. . Over 400 students are currently registered on ctheirses at Ballyhaise College.
The main house is nearly 300 years old and retains many of its historical features.
Student Accommodation
Students are accommodated in three modern houses, each with 18 single bedrooms.
Facilities/Activities
A large gym is available for indoor soccer, basketball, volleyball, badminton and theyight training. There are also game rooms for pool, darts, table tennis, cards, TV and general socialising plus a computer training facility with 30 modern PCs.
Gaelic football is popular and the college team visits other colleges to play matches. Debating, cross-country running, Macra na Feirme farm tasks, sheep shearing and local and foreign ttheirs are all part of life in Ballyhaise.
