Level 5 Certificate in Agriculture

Course details

This full-time course aims to provide students with a quality practical agricultural education. It prepares graduates for farming, further training in farm management, farm work abroad and careers in agri-industry. The course has a high practical content, and students spend about half the day on farm practical and skills training and half the day in lectures.

Entry requirements: Applicants must be 17 years of age on or before 1st January following their date of entry.

The Leaving Certificate is not essential but strongly recommended.

Course content:

(a) Examples of modules (subjects) studied:-

Animal Production Science and Crop Production Science, Farm Business Organisation, Leadership

(b) Students choose from two of the following modules:

Dairy, Beef, Sheep, Crop Production and Tractor Driving

(c) Then other modules may be chosen

Maintenance of Farm Structures, Crop Establishment Equipment, Chemical Fertiliser Application

(d) There is a 3month period of practical training on a registered host farm.
