The QQI Legal Studies Level 5 Major Award is designed to provide learners with a wide range of interesting subjects in Law. It will enable learners to acquire specialist knowledge, skills and competence to work effectively in an Irish legal setting or related area.
It will also provide the practical skills and knowledge needed to maximise their potential in making a successful transition to third level education. This Legal Studies course is delivered by a highly experienced and qualified team of Solicitors and Barristers.
The programme is suitable for those from a non-legal background or those whose activities involve them in the practical aspects of law and legislation in the workplace. It also serves as a route for further legal education at third level and former graduates have been very successful in securing places in UCD & DCU.

This Legal Studies Level 5 Major Award is suitable for those who are seeking to enter the legal profession or for those who wish to work in this field. It will provide a solid foundation in the core legal subjects and prepare learners for further study.
The entry requirements for this Major Award are:
- Leaving Certificate standard or appropriate FETAC/QQI Qualification or equivalent.
- Mature Applicants with relevant life and work experience.
- English Language Proficiency Test where deemed appropriate or an IELTS score of 5.0.
- A good standard of English and good literacy skills are essential for this law course.
The Legal Studies Level 5 (Major Award) provides the skills, knowledge and competence required to work effectively and provide support in Business, Accounting & Finance, Legal, Insurance, Banking and many other areas of business. The course will also provide a wide range of Academic Opportunities for those who gain this Major Award.
The first 7 Modules are Mandatory / learners select 1 from the final two Modules: Business Administraiton and Health & Safety at Work.

Assessment
The Assessment of the Legal Studies course includes a combination of module appropriate assessment procedures which will facilitate the assessment of learning outcomes of the course. These methods will include a combination of final written examinations and continuous assessment processes such as assignments, collection of work, learner records, projects and skills demonstrations.
