Course details
This Global User Station (GUS)-based course provides a hands-on orientation to operating the TotalPlant Solution (TPS) System consisting of the Local Control Network (LCN) and the Universal Control Network (UCN). Standard TPS displays and GUS graphic displays are used to control and monitor both analog and digital process points and to monitor process alarms. This course provides an introduction to SafeView windows management and the PC/Windows 2000 environment.
Course Objectives
At the end of the course, participants will be able to operate with confidence, transition smoothly to a new control system, use the standard control displays effectively. Participants will also learn to use GUS graphic displays to control and monitor the process, interpret process trend displays for better control and understand the process and system alarm indications for quicker response to process and system upsets.
Course Outline
- Log on and off the Global User Station, including resetting the GUS and loading the Native Window.
- Use window navigation tools
- Manage windows using the SafeView control environment
- Use standard operating displays including the GUS Faceplate and Group displays, Native Window Group displays, and Point Detail
- displays
- Use change zones and faceplates to make process changes
- Identify color conventions
- Identify control conventions (automatic, manual, cascade, PV tracking, and program)
- Navigate through standard operating displays
- Use GUS Alarm displays and Native Window Alarm displays to identify and respond to abnormal conditions
- Identify and use tools available on the TPS system to analyze process upsets. Use Point and Group Trend displays
- Load and operate a simple sequence program.
Target Audience
TPS Operators requiring basic Distributed Control System (DCS) training, needing to understand the differences between the Universal Station (US) and the Global User Station (GUS) operating environments, and needing refresher training on GUS.

Certificates of Participation will be awarded to participants who have achieved 75% attendance for the course.
