Course details

This lesson is perfect for total jazz guitar beginners, or more experienced guitarists with little or no jazz knowledge.

No note reading necessary. Just grab your guitar and go!
(Accompanying PDF contains all chords and fingerings, with TABS)

This hour (or so) of video instruction was made to feel like an actual private lesson. In it, you'll tackle the building blocks of jazz guitar "comping" (accompaniment):

  • Chord Shells (on 3 types of chords)
  • "Jazzier" Chords
  • The *crucial* II-V-I progression
  • Most importantly: two version of jazz-type blues.

All of this in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. This course has seen hundreds of total beginners go from nothing to accompanying on the blues (in a jazz context!) successfully. This is a re-release of, perhaps, the most popular online course on JazzGuitarLessons.net.

In short, whatever your current abilities, you'll be playing jazz in an hour, becoming a "functional" accompanist very quickly.

Every exercise is covered in detail (fingers, note locations, how to strum, etc.) and was create so you're allowed to rehearse with the teacher. Every section has play-alongs that you can use and re-use to perfect and master your chops.

Testimonials:

"As a beginner in jazz guitar I really liked this video. Now I understand chords for simple blues progression and standard II-V-I and it sounds great. You explain it very clear and can see your fingerings!

Now I wish you could follow up with a video learning minor progressions and altered chords too. Good luck!"

"The [...] Course is a perfect start for me. I have found the shell chord shapes easy to form and relatively easy to make chord changes. [...] Furthermore, the chord shape extensions to 13ths and 9ths are also relatively easy to form.

I believe that an important part of learning is to be able to achieve a successful and useful reward early on - with this introductory course I have been delighted to find that the potential is there to build a very good vocabulary of jazz chords based on a range of undemanding key chord shapes. Which is rewarding.

All it takes is practice which I find is not particularly demanding and which is very encouraging."
