Course details

This entry-level ensemble workshop is both a follow-up to Waltons New School of Music's Jazz Improvisation Basics course and an excellent stand-alone introduction to blues and jazz ensemble playing and improvisation for those new to the forms.participants will develop their practical blues and jazz ensemble and improvisation skills by exploring and playing together the following standards:

  • All Blues
  • Blue Bossa
  • Blue Monk
  • Cantaloupe Island
  • Chameleon
  • Footprints
  • Mercy Mercy Mercy
  • St. Thomas
  • Summertime
  • Watermelon Man

Students entering this course should be comfortable playing their instrument (after at least one year of instrumental study). Participants should have a grounding in basic music theory, including treble and bass clefs, note values, time and key signatures, scales, and fre­quently used terms and signs All instruments are welcome!
