The main aim of the ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing is to enable candidates
to gain the necessary practical and theoretical skills in order to provide Hairdressing service.
Course Pre-requisite: GCE 'N' level or equivalent, 16 years and above / adult returners with experience at the workplace
Language Proficiency: GCE 'N' level or equivalent

- Style and Dress Hair using a Variety of Techniques
- Cut Women's Hair to Create a Variety of looks
- Colour Hair to Create a Variety of Looks
- Hairdressing Consultation Support for Colleagues
- Monitor and Maintain Health and Safety Practice in the salon
- Human Resource Management
- Promote Products and Services to Clients in the Salon
Optional Units
- Creative Hairdressing Design Skills
- Perm Hair to Create a Variety of looks
- Bridal Hairstyling
- Hair Extension Service
it also aims:
- to provide skills at Level 3 for those working in the hairdressing industry
- to provide opportunities for staff in the hairdressing industry to gain a Level 3 qualification
- to qualify learners as hairdressers at Level 3 in the hairdressing industry
- to sustain the interest of learners wanting to work in the hairdressing industry
- to encourage knowledge and understanding of the hairdressing industry at Level 3
- to provide opportunities for learners to focus on the development of the major functional skills and the wider functional skills in a hairdressing context , such as communicating with clients , working with others and problem solving
- to provide opportunities for learners to develop aa range of skills , techniques , personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in employment as a hairdresser.
The candidate will study the theory and practice of hairdressing services to include the 7 mandatory units and 4 optional units.The underpinning knowledge and skills required to successfully perform these services ia also required.
Assessment
This qualification will ne internally and externally assessed using the assessmenr of skills as set out below.Once all practical portfolios of evidenceassignment and underpinning knowledge have been colpleted the learner will have a final practical test carried out by the internal assessor using the ITEC marking criteria and final assessment form. An ITEC External Verifier will verify all practical portfolios of evidence and assignment and verify a minimum 10% sample of candidates being assessed across the range of skills alongside the Lecturer/Internal.
Grading of the qualification
- It is the aggregate mark of the final practical test specific mandatory units and the multiple choice question theory paper that forms the overall grade of the qualification
- The final practical test is graded pass , merit or distinction
- The multiple choice question theory paper is grade pass,merit or distinction
- Assignment are grade pass or refer
- If a learner is unsuccessful in any area ,they will be reassessed only in the unit where they have not achieved a pass grade
- Referrals should be complete withinone year of the original assessment/observation,assignment and/or multiple choice theory tests.The remainder of the results will stay in the ITEC system until all assessment ,assignments and multiple-choice theory testes have been allocated a pass grade
- Learners must complete a portfolio of performance evidence and achieve a pass grade in all assignment (where applicable) or Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) the underpinning knowledge before taking the final practical test to achieve the ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing (see assessment table above)
