Course details

The main aim of the ITEC Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing is to enable student to gain the necessary practical and theoretical skills in order to provide hairdressing services.

While on the course, you will take part in practical session working on blocks (mannequin heads) and later on will begin supervised practice with live models in the Classic Practical Area, applying what you have learnt in a fully equipped salon-school environment. Theory lessons that come alongside are conducted in the Lecture room.

Upon completion of the course, you will be able to:

  • Prepare to shampoo and condition the hair and scalp

  • Carry out reception duties

  • Deal with payments
  • Describe the key characteristics of the hair industry
  • Describe working practices in the hair industry

  • Maintain and dismantle the display area
  • Prepare to perm and neutralise hair
  • Perm and neutralise hair
  • Work with clients and colleagues in a salon
  • Plan an image

  • Course Intake 
  • Course commences first Monday of every month.

Course Entry Requirement

  • Minimum of 5 G.C.S.E. credits (grades A*- C) or its equivalent or
  • Completed ITEC Entry Level Certificate courses or
  • Minimum 1 year salon experience as a Salon Assistant

Graduation Requirement 

Students are required to meet the following criteria in order to graduate and obtain their relevant diploma:

  • Must complete all 13 modules with at least 80% (90% for International students) in attendance
  • Able to perform all 1 practical assessment of shampoo, blow, cut and colour on live model
  • Complete 6 project assignments
  • Complete 5 MCQ assignments
  • Must achieve at least 80% in terms of live model requirement

Assessment

This qualification will be internally assessed and externally verified.

Each module consists of its own respective portfolio of evidences &/ project assignments, &/ MCQ assignment &/ Assessments. Assessments are internally assessed by our assessor using ITEC marking criteria. Projects, Portfolio of evidences and MCQ assignments will be verified by ITEC examiner using ITEC grading system.

Internal Assessment

Before completion of the course, the following tasks have to be internally assessed.

  • Shampoo and Condition the Hair and Scalp
  • Cut Women's Hair
  • The Art of Dressing Hair
  • Colour and Lighten Hair
  • Client Consultation for Hair Services

You have to register to sit for internal practical assessment. There are 2 assessment dates per month. You are required to perform the above tasks on a live model. Students are responsible for their assessment live model.

Examination

At the end of the course, you can register for ITEC certification. An ITEC External Verifier will verify all components of the course - portfolio of evidences, project assignments, MCQ assignment & Internal Practical Assessments Records. Students are required to perform a final practical test on live mode during the day of the verification. The following tasks have to be performed on the live model.

  • Shampoo and Condition the Hair and Scalp
  • Cut Women's Hair
  • The Art of Dressing Hair
  • Colour and Lighten Hair
  • Client Consultation for Hair Services

Students will be assessed by our assessor alongside the external verifier. Students are also required to sit for a theory test. There are 2 mediums of theory paper – English / Chinese.

Upon passing the external verification and passing the final practical & theory tests, you will receive the ITEC Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing.

There are only 2 series of ITEC certification – May/June and November/December. Students can only sit for June or December examination regardless of their course completion date. (example, students that complete their course in March, will have to wait till June to sit for their examination).

International students, upon completion of their course and expiration of their student pass, will have to return to their home country and make arrangement to come to Singapore for their scheduled examination.

Progression 

At the end of the course, you will be able to use the knowledge and skill learned to enter the industry as a Junior Stylist or you can choose to progress on to ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing (leading to ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing certification) and take your place in the industry as a Qualified Stylist.

Course Awards 

Upon meeting all School Graduation requirements and passing the ITEC Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing, you will be awarded the Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing, by ITEC. In addition, you will also receive the Kimage Certificate upon passing the ITEC Examination.
