Course details

This practical course will give students an excellent grounding in the key skills required by Fashion Designers. The Associate Diploma in Fashion Design has been specifically developed to teach participants the process of fashion design as well as working with and manipulating fabrics. Students will design and make a one off garment as part of the course. This course is suitable for those with or without experience in Fashion Design and is also suitable for hobbyist clothing / dress makers.

Course Description

The course combines fashion design theory and practical design classes to allow students apply the theory as they progress through the course.

Course Content

The course includes the following modules:

  • Garment Construction Module
  • Embroidery Module
  • Design Module
  • Combined Materials Module
  • Drawing Module
  • Communications Module
  • Work Experience Module
  • Appreciation of Art, Craft & Design Module

Course Outcomes

Upon completion students will:

  • Know how to create textures
  • Know how to manipulate fabrics
  • Understand how to use embroidery in their designs
  • Understand the technical processes associated with garment construction
  • Understand the process of creating a garment from a 2D design
  • Be able to professionally finish a garments
  • Have made a garment of their own design

Assessment

This course is assessed through continuous assessment and project work.

Certification

On successful completion of this programme participants will receive a Dublin Institute of Design Associate Certificate in Fashion Design.
