OHSEC Safety Consultancies, as an approved IOSH Course Provider with Certificate No. 2623, have certified thousands of safety professionals of multi-cultural and multi-national backgrounds in various industries to become internationally certified safety practitioners.
This course is designed to help team leaders, supervisors, managers and heads of department effectively manage their teams' health and safety. Successful candidates are awarded a certificate from the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). It provides the general knowledge and understanding required to manage key elements of health and safety in the workplace. It involves practical, interactive teaching with an end of course assessment and workplace practical risk assessment project.
The aim of the course is to provide delegates with sufficient knowledge to be able to complete the practical and written assessments at the end of the course, and to enable delegates to manage practical health and safety issues in the workplace.
On completion of the course delegates should be able to carry out practical risk assessments and identify the key legal requirements for health and safety.
The course consists following modules:
Introducing Managing safely
Some managers may see health and safety as an add-on to their role – even an intrusion. The first module makes it clear that managers are accountable for their teams, and makes a persuasive case for managing safely.
This module defines and demystifies ‘risk’ and ‘risk assessment’. Risk assessments and a simple scoring system are introduced, and delegates carry out a series of assessments.
Here the session tackles cutting risks down, concentrating on the best techniques to control key risks, and how to choose the right method.
Understanding your responsibilities
This module looks at the demands of the law and how the legal system works, and introduces a health and safety management system.
All the main issues any operation has to deal with are covered in this module – entrances and exits, work traffic, fire, chemicals, electricity, physical and verbal abuse, bullying, stress, noise, housekeeping and the working environment, slips, trips and falls, working at height, computers and manual handling.
Investigating accidents and incidents
The session starts with why accidents should be investigated, and goes on to cover why things go wrong, and how to carry out an investigation when they do.
This module explains how checking performance can help to improve health and safety. Delegates learn how to develop basic performance indicators, and get to grips with auditing and proactive and reactive measuring.
Protecting our environment
A short but effective introduction to waste and pollution leads into a look at how organizations and individual managers can get involved in cutting down environmental impacts.
Who is this course for?
General Managers, supervisors, health and safety and HR personnel who have responsibility for, or involvement in, the health and well-being of employees as part of their day-to-day duties. Organizations may wish to use it as part of their health and well-being strategy to complement their existing occupational health staff.
It is also suitable for those who do not wish to progress to the level of professional qualification, but would benefit from attending an accredited health and safety management course. An awareness of health and safety issues would be an advantage but is not essential.
