Course details
Access to the built and external environment affects a large number of people within society. It is accepted throughout the European Union that at any one time 15-20% of the population will have a significant level of disability of a temporary or permanent nature.
Access audits are inspections of buildings or external environments aimed at assessing their accessibility against relevant standards and best practice guidelines, such as National Disability Authority (NDA) Guidelines, “Building for Everyone” and BS8300:2009.
Course is designed for people who wish to gain an understanding of accessibility issues, applicable best practice guidelines and standards and of the role of an access auditor.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this training course, delegates should be able to:
- Understand barriers to access in the built environment
- Be familiar with applicable best practice guidelines and relevant standards
- Understand the role of an access auditor and main principles of access auditing

- Outline of Irish and International context: legislation, guidelines & best practice
