Course details

The aim of this course is to give students an understanding of the basic principles of Quality Assurance with particular emphasis on quality management system standards including ISO 9001:2008, as well as Auditing, statistical techniques and current trends.

This course is designed for those who wish to gain specialist knowledge of quality management principles and how they are applied in the manufacturing, processing and service industries.

This course covers all the fundamental quality related subjects necessary for anyone new to or considering a career in Quality Assurance. In addition, the practical application of all the course concepts is covered.

Successful assessment on this course will allow students to comfortably undertake the Quality Management Part 1/ Excellence Ireland Diploma in Quality Part 1 (10 credit) award, which is one half of the Certificate in Quality.

Programme Modules

  • Overview of ISO 9001:2008 including the process approach
  • Management responsibility, product realization
  • Documentation requirements including control of documents and records
  • Non-conforming product, complaints, corrective action
  • Internal and external auditing
  • Introduction to ISO 18001 (Health and Safety)
  • Introduction to ISO 14000 (Environmental Mgmt. System)
  • Introduction to ISO 13485 (Medical Device Standard)
  • Statistical techniques with an emphasis on the practical application in a work environment: Control charts, understanding variation, data analysis and presentation, process capability, and 6 sigma

Examination

This course is assessed by exam at the end of the year.
