Course details
This introductory course in Blender 2.8 will cover all topics needed for photorealistic rendering, ranging from modeling and texturing, to lighting and rendering. All modeling, texturing, and rendering tools used are in-house tools built into Blender. No third party software is required. Everything done in this course assumes beginner experience, although any level will benefit from this course if they wish to learn photorealistic rendering.
Learn various Architectural Modeling Techniques
This course will teach you many different modeling techniques for the photorealistic architectural interior that will be created in this course. You'll learn how to model a realistic couch from scratch and will also learn various sculpting techniques to add in creases and wrinkles into the leather.
Progress through the scene in a logical, concise manner
Set up the scene's perspective using the fSpy software
Box out the scene's interior
Model a couch
Model portraits
Model a carpet
Model windows
Texture everything previously mentioned
Add in realistic lighting into the scene (Sun Lamp + HDRI)
Learn and understand the Shader Editor
Add in after-effects to the render using Blender's compositor
Save the final image to share with your friends
Why Blender?
Blender 2.8 is Blender's newest and most powerful release. It has undergone a complete overhaul to the UI, modeling systems, animation systems, along with every other tool Blender has to offer. Blender is a direct competitor to other 3D Modeling/graphics applications, such as Maya and Photoshop, but the best part is that Blender is open source and completely free. This software is especially good for photorealistic rendering, where you can hone the powerful Cycles rendering engine or the new Eevee real-time rendering engine. Blender is now arguably the best 3D software there is. It's used by millions of artists and designers, and used by thousands of independent studios and big-time graphics companies.
Content and Overview
This course starts with the basics: setting up the scene, basic modeling, refresher of the basic modeling tools; just the simple stuff. As you progress through this 5-hour exciting and fun course, you'll soon master the fundamentals of photorealistic rendering.
You'll start by first modeling and sculpting out a realistic couch, baking normal maps and texturing along the way. This is the area where you'll get the most sculpting/modeling experience, because it's broken down into chunks of useful information.
You'll also create portraits for the walls, much like you might find in the living room of the usual family.
Afterwards, you'll create a realistic carpet using Blender's hair particle system. This is my personal favorite because creating hair-like structures is super fun and flexible, and often gives an immediate realistic effect into your scenes.
Finally, you'll set up realistic lighting in the scene. This will be accomplished using a basic sun lamp and HDRI system. It's super easy and has an immediate effect of visual realism.
Everything in this course is broken down into pieces, so you won't have to sit through long sessions of video. This course is designed in order to allow students to work at their own pace, stress-free.
By the end of this course, you'll have the essential skills needed to start making photorealistic scenes on your own.
