COURSE OVERVIEW:
Fashion Design Course
What better way to understand the skills and knowledge needed to become a success within the field of fashion design than learning from a talented team of reputable fashion designers teaching at the LA College of Creative Arts College. With internationally renowned designer Natalie B Coleman taking over as director and chieft tutor for 2014, students will be given a hands on, realistic approach to the world of the fashion designer, that prepares them for a career in the fashion industry.
Designed for those who have no prior expertise within the discipline, this part-time course commences with the essential basics of art, design and illustration before moving onto the design fundamentals of fashion drawing, pattern drafting, pattern cutting and garment construction.
Fashion Design - Success
Becoming a success in the world of fashion design is no longer about having an interesting idea and producing a quick sketch of what this may look like on a piece of paper. A graduate of fashion design can now work in so many different capacities, from designing specific garments and footwear collections to being tasked with studying international trends as a fashion writer or within a design office environment.
Fashion Design Course - Portfolio
Throughout the duration of this fashion design course, students will work on their own bespoke garment. The finished design will not only demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of fashion design but also of the production and finishing techniques it will have acquired. The garment will be included in a finale fashion shoot which students can incorporate into their design portfolio and also present to guests in an imaginative format on graduation day.
Another popular component of this course is the ‘LA Tea & Cake’ seminars which take place regularly on campus. This provides an opportunity for key industry experts to share their story and offer insider advice and tips on the latest industry techniques. Students are encouraged to network and make a good first impression with all guest speakers as these influential people could provide future employment opportunities and character recommendations.
