Course details

NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement), APEC (Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation) & the new WTO (World Trade Organization) agreements are revolutionizing international trade and creating millions of new business opportunities. Responsive to standards and demands of industry for training in this field, Brighton College has become a platinum accredited partner with FITT (Forum for International Trade Training) and an accredited partner with the Canadian International Freight Forwarders Association (Ciffa), to deliver our program. The structure of the program will consist of two separate certifications that are recognized worldwide. The first certification is from completion of the 8 course modules required by FITT for the Forum for International Trade Diploma and the initial, educational requirements for the Certified International Trade Professional designation (C.I.T.P.). The second certification is achieved by the completion of Module 1 of the Canadian International Freight Forwarders Association (Ciffa) program.

This program imparts knowledge and skills required for exporting goods and services from Canada (FITT), and also develops skills and knowledge of inland, air and marine movement of goods and services from the point of view of importation into Canada (Ciffa). The Enterprise Resource Planning course gives an overview of the software products that companies are now relying on to advance their international business management systems and integrate all aspects of their organization. This is accompanied by a thorough introduction into accounting and MS-Office products, along with business communications. In addition, the program also includes work experience (practicum) at various trade businesses. The purpose of the practicum is to apply the theory and skills learnt throughout the program and observe professionals in practical situations. The students also acquire situational-specific skills and identify areas that may need to be developed further. Students receive feedback and evaluation of their performance and gain valuable contacts in this diverse field. The successful completion of all courses (including a 4-week practicum) is required for program graduation.
