Intermediate Level Solution Focused Brief Therapy

Course details

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a short-term goal-focused therapeutic approach, which helps clients change by constructing solutions rather than dwelling on problems.

Elements of the desired solution often are already present in the client s life, and become the basis for ongoing change. The therapist intervenes only to the extent necessary, with treatment usually lasting for less than six sessions.

SFBT was developed by Steve de Shazer, Insoo Kim Berg, and the team at the Brief Family Therapy Center of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the mid-1980's.

PROGRAMME CERTIFICATION

• Certificate in Intermediate Level Solution Focused Brief Therapy from The Learning Curve Institute.

PROGRAMME AIMS

The aim of this workshop is to expand on the theory and practice of solution focused brief therapy introduced in the introduction workshop. The objective of the two days is to provide space to practice the skills associated with Solution Focused Brief Therapy at a deeper level. This will include scenarios dealing with  difficult  clients and will naturally lead on to group exploration of the theory, skills and practice of Solution Focused Brief Therapy.

PROGRAMME CONTENT

Students will receive handouts and relevant literature to enable them to deepen their understanding of Solution Focused Brief Therapy appropriate to this level. In each session students will have the opportunity to observe and practice Solution Focused Brief Therapy as role-plays and scenarios provided by the lecturer.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

• To build on and expand existing knowledge, in relation to Solution Focused Brief Therapy within the group.
• To enhance confidence in participants use of Solution Focused Brief Therapy, particularly with  difficult  clients.
• To have a deeper understanding of the theory of Solution Focused Brief Therapy.
• To provide space and time for participants to become familiar with the theory of Solution Focused Brief Therapy and apply its skills through role-plays.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Successful completion of 2 day Introduction to Solution Focused Brief Therapy Workshop through The Learning Curve Institute.

ASSESSMENT

Assessment will be carried out through continuous assessment of role plays and listening exercises.
