Interior Design Level 6

Course details

The course is aimed to enable students create a professional standard portfolio with a focus on Interior, spatial and 3D design. Students can then apply to third level degree courses in a wide variety of areas within 3D design including interior architecture, furniture, product design, display and merchandising amongst others. Students will also gain the skills needed to fill entry level positions in a wide variety of careers within the design industry.

The course introduces students to the world of design including commercial and domestic interior design, sustainable architectural design, furniture, lighting, set design and exhibition design. Students gain valuable experience working on live projects, competitions and industry workshops.

Each year we collaborate with the Erasmus three week work programme, where a number of students get the opportunity to work with design companies in Budapest.

COURSE CONTENT*

Subjects include: 3D design methods, 3D visualisation, presentation techniques, computer graphics, design principles, furniture design, professional practice and communication techniques. Marketing for 3D design, retail and exhibition design. Students are encouraged to continue work placements, engage in live projects and conduct self-marketing activities throughout the year.

We introduce students to live projects, design competitions with real clients from Industry. Building a professional design portfolio is the final task that will lead to advanced entry to degree level courses or a professional portfolio for entry into the jobs market.

SOFTWARE

Current industry standard software is provided throughout the college including AutoCAD 2D and 3D and other visualisation software such as Google Sketch Up, Revit, 3D Studio Max. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop.

CERTIFICATION

FETAC Level 6

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Leaving Certificate or FETAC level 5 or similar and interview . Mature and postgraduate students also welcome and prior experience in related areas will be considered.
