The language teaching adopted in nine of the ten licence programme classes at Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi is the French language, as is at the Sorbonne in Paris, in order to ensure full equivalence of diplomas.

Despite the fact that all students wishing to enrol at the University Paris-Sorbonne Abu Dhabi may not speak French, student from the UAE, nationals of the Gulf or of the rest of the world are welcomed by the department of French language in the intensive French course program, allowing all students who have successfully completed the programme to enter into licence-level courses taught in French.
After one year in French intensive classes, they will be able to speak French fluently and reach a sufficient level to follow a French licence courses. At the end of this year of intensive learning, they will obtain a diploma (DU) from the University Paris-Sorbonne Abu Dhabi, which allows them to register in licence.

The curriculum of the French language is part of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), and in accordance with a strict progression of levels. It takes a level B2 (certified by a diploma) to be allowed to register in licence courses. The Department of FLE, as a test centre from the University Paris-Sorbonne in Paris (CELFEE), is empowered to award degrees to level B2 and beyond, such as C1 and C2 levels.
