Course details

This course moves at a fast pace, starting with a full overview of injection moulding from the moulding parameters/ mould opening and closing parameters, up to injection pressure curves and why troubleshooting issues occur.

This course suits two groups (the course is flexible depending on your needs)

  1. Technical staff who have not had previous formal training – they will be given a thorough introduction to the moulding cycle, plastic materials, basic troubleshooting, common processing errors, safety, etc, using analogies to allow attendees to visualise the process and so understand it in detail. Practical sessions will concentrate on setting up the process from scratch, dealing with pre-set faults, fixing machine stoppages (tolerances, alarms, etc). Remaining time will be spent troubleshooting and reviewing quality/ defect issues.
  2. Operators/ Technicians with responsibility for mould changing/ set-up. The course follows the format above but the practical sessions concentrate on changing moulds, mould monitoring set-up (press/ speed/ switchover points), calculating and setting locking force. Setting up injection parameters to produce good shots and basic troubleshooting will be covered in less detail.

This course is a busy four days, and trainees generally find it challenging whether they are new to moulding of have years of experience. We always work to add value and develop new skills, and having four injection moulding machines allows us to set different levels of difficulty on different machines depending on trainees experience and how fast they learn.

Course Content:

Good Moulding Shop Practice

Pressure curves – the inside view of what is going on during moulding

Analysis of the Moulding Cycle – explaining the various parameters using everyday analogies

Basic Machine Set Up from a blank programme – the Clamp Unit and Injection Unit

Basic Machine Optimisation

Safety

  • Machine Safety Features
  • Lifting Equipment
  • Safety for Moulds
  • Safe Operation Procedures

Practical Exercises:

  • Mould Removal
  • Mould Placement including mould safety setup, ejectors, setting clamping parameters
  • Setting Injection Unit Parameters

Troubleshooting:

Analysis of Basic Moulding Faults (short shot, flash, mould safety)

Lots of practice fixing part defects, and developing a logical troubleshooting method

Trainee participation is encouraged in all discussions and practical demonstrations.

The course will be supported with numerous practical demonstrations on Arburg, Demag, Krauss Maffei and Fanuc(electric) injection moulding machines.

Who Should Attend?

This course is aimed at anyone who wants to get a very comprehensive understanding of the moulding process. The course material has a very practical application with approximately 70% of the time spent on the machines.
