Course details
This course will assist the participant to develop skills and knowledge needed to relay and respondto information in the process plant. The participant will obtain the fundamental knowledge in identifying relevant information, alerts and alarms before relaying and responding information appropriately in the workplace. On completion of this module, the participant will learn to apply different methods of communicating messages on the plant / worksite, and how to interpret and act upon these messages.
COURSE TOPICS
TOPIC 1
INITIATE MESSAGES IN PLANT/WORK SITE
- Types of communication devices
- Company’s regulations for use of communication devices in plant/work site
- Common plant terminology and associated abbreviations
- Techniques of using the telephone or two-way radio for communication
TOPIC 2
RECEIVE MESSAGES IN PLANT/WORK SITE
- Importance of two-way communication
- Responsibilities of message sender
- Responsibilities of message receiver
- Factors affecting two-way communication in plant/work site
- Consequences of misunderstanding messages or not getting accurate messages
TOPIC 3
INTERPRET MESSAGES IN PLANT/WORK SITE
- Types of communication
- Types of alarm (DCS alarm and Annuciator Panel alarm)
- Clarification to ensure that a message is correctly understood
TOPIC 4
ACT UPON MESSAGES IN PLANT/WORK SITE
- Procedures for relaying messages to another party
- Procedures for taking appropriate action upon receiving a message
PRE-REQUISITES
Candidates must be able to:
- Understand and speak English
- Demonstrate maths proficiency
- Successfully complete an assessment test conducted by CPTC

CERTIFICATION
A WSQ Statement of Attainment will be issued to each participant on successful completion of the course
