Course details

This programme has been designed to help enable participants to develop the knowledge and skills necessary use and maintenance a range of horticulture tools and equipment correctly and safely. During the programme learners will be required to perform a range of tasked on Hand/ Power Tools, pedestrian and horticultural machinery.

• Participants applying for this award should hold a level 4 and/or have relevant life and work experience. Applicants will have the opportunity to advise of any special learning requirements on application/registration

• FETAC Level 5 in Plant Identification and Use

Assessment

• 80% Skills Demonstration, 20% Examination

Programme Content

• Learn horticultural operations to include their primary use and hazards and regulation associated
• Prepare power hand tools pre starting safety checks, mixing fuel, checking for leaks and damage Use a range of hand tools safely
• Use power hand tools safely including a two-stroke engine powered strimmer and a hedge cutter
• Operate a pedestrian rotovator, scarifier, knapsack sprayer, mechanised raker, pedestrian mower, ride-on mower, trailing mower and compact-type tractor mower
• Maintain all equipment while in use to include setting height of cut, removing blade for maintenance, sharpening blade, refuelling, replac-ing cord or gut as needed and maintaining lubrication and filters, cleaning and storage
