Course details

The programme is for students who want to acquire the knowledge, skill, and competence to work independently in a managed environment in a range of equine sectors and contexts and /or to progress to further or higher education and training.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

There is no minimum educational entry requirement but students who have completed the Leaving Certificate are likely to benefit most from the course. Experience in the equine industry is an advantage.

WORK AS

Stable supervisor graduates will work in areas such as stable and yard maintenance, horse feeding and grooming, horse exercising, and horse training

WORK IN

Graduates from this programme will have employment opportunities in the horse industry including stud farms, training yards, and equestrian centres.

WORK EXPERIENCE

While students will spend a lot of time in an equine environment they will also benefit from work experience which will consist of ten days placement in a suitable equine environment.

PROGRESSION

Students with this Level 5 award may apply to a Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Horsemanship (Equitation). And a Level 6 Advanced Certificate (Stud Management). Students can also apply via the Higher Education Links Scheme, for the Higher Certificate in Business in Equine Studies (AL025) at Athlone Institute of Technology.
