    Course details

    The aim of the Higher Executive Officer (HEO) programme is to further participants’ development as middle managers to enable them to manage their own and others’ work to a high standard and thus contribute to the achievement of their organisation’s priorities. The course will cover the key competency areas of managing change, influencing and persuading, staff management, work organisation and performance management. This programme is designed for staff at Higher Executive Officer level in government departments, offices and state agencies.

    Objectives

    Upon completion of this training, participants will:

    • have developed key management competencies to enable them to get results that reflect organisational priorities
    • have identified and understand their own management style and their role as a manager in developing and maximising staff potential
    • understand the difference between management and leadership
    • have improved understanding of influencing and persuasion techniques
    • be better able to manage conflict in the workplace
    • understand how to review performance regularly within a section and manage performance issues
    • have acquired skills and techniques to help them deliver on change
