Course details

The Higher Diploma in Neuromuscular Therapy is a part-time programme, available in Dublin which qualifies graduates to offer consultancy services to primary conventional and complementary bodywork practitioners as well as offer advanced intervention procedures to patients with chronic soft tissue, muscle and nerve pain.

Although Neuromuscular Therapy is firmly established, respected and accepted worldwide, this Higher Diploma is unique in it's representation of both the European and U.S. models of NMT, offering as it does a combination of the differing, yet complementary approaches, of the world's most respected authorities of Neuromuscular Therapy.

The course is exclusively available to qualified bodywork therapists. Qualifying individual include:

All applications will be considered on an individual basis.

Certificate level Neuromuscular and Physical Therapy students who are approaching the end of their course are also eligible to apply.

Syllabus

  • Advanced functional anatomy based on BioTensegrity and Four Bar Kinematics
  • Pathophysiology of chronic pain
  • Arthrokinematics - A new explanation of human movement
  • Cranial Manipulation - An ENMT integrative approach
  • Intra-oral Tissue Release for effective treatment of chronic pain problems including; head / neck pain, dizziness (Vertigo), Otalgia (ear pain), impaired hearing, change of sensations in the ear, double or blurred vision, jaw joint noises, sinus pain, migraines and headaches
  • TMJ Treatment - effective interventions for TMJ pain and associated symptoms including ear fullness / pressure, ear pain, tinnitus, dizziness, and hyperacusis
  • Spinal Mobilisation (using mobilisation with movement (MWM)) - passive mobilisation with additional active movement
  • Lymphatic enhancement techniques
  • Respiratory dysfunction and its influences on chronic pain states - NMT soft tissue interventions to restore normal respiratory function
  • The Integumentary System and its possible role in chronic pain (e.g Fibromyalgia)
  • Advanced myofascial trigger point deactivation interventions
  • Rehabilitation Sequencing - neurodynamic stabilisation and efficiency
  • Laws of European Neuromuscular Therapy and their implications in effective NMT interventions
  • Medical Exercise - exploring the science of safe, effective and appropriate physical activities to restore neuromuscular efficiency and offer pain resolutions
  • Respiratory considerations and soft tissue interventions in chronic pain
  • Advanced neurodynamic stress assessment and ENMT resolutions to restore normal nerve function
  • Fascia, skin and myokinetic chains and links
  • Full body kinetic chain assessment
  • Soft Tissue Release - also known as Active Release Therapy, Soft Tissue Active Release Therapy, Connective Tissue Massage
  • Myofascial and skin release techniques using cupping
  • Advanced integrated neuromuscular inhibition technique
