The Higher Diploma in H125Accounting and Finance is designed to prepare students with the knowledge and skills that will enable them to follow a career in all areas of accounting and a wide range of careers in business and finance. The program focuses on aspect of Accounting and Finance which upon successful knowledge transfer allow individuals to be competent in today's challenging world of commerce. This programme is also designed to prepare students obtain LCCI Level 3 diploma in Accounting.
Upon successful completion of the Higher Diploma, students will be able to:
- Enter into suitable employment
- Acquired suitable academic knowledge and practices to progress further into higher education.
MODULE STRUCTURE
Book-Keeping Level 1
This subject builds on the knowledge and skills of LCCI framework. This course provides students with the basic principles underlying the recording of business transactions, and teaches students to maintain the books of and prepare final accounts for sole-proprietors. It includes the record of double-entry bookkeeping of simple transactions concerning the purchase and sale of goods and the receipt and payment of cash.
Book-Keeping Level 2
This subject is to provide students with better understanding on maintaining financial records and preparing accounts. Student should have completed the subject study of Book-keeping 1 or have relevant knowledge and skills to book-keeping. Students will learn to prepare and interpret accounts for various types of organizations and business.
Business Statistics
This module is intended for candidates who are working or intending to work in a job role that requires knowledge and understanding of statistical techniques and how they are used to extract information relating to business situation.
Cost Accounting
This module covers some depth of cost accounting knowledge and skills as well as a basic understanding of cost accounting principles and practice.
Management Accounting
This module covers the basic principles involved in short-term cost behaviour, short and long term decision making and short-term profit control, cash management and product cost ascertainment.
Financial Accounting 1
It is suitable for candidates who are working, or preparing to work in an advanced accountancy role with a high degree of autonomy where they will be required to produce and interpret financial statements.
Financial Accounting 2
It is suitable for candidates who are working, or preparing to work in an advanced accountancy role with a high degree of autonomy where they will be required to produce and interpret financial statements.
Business Finance
This module is designed to provide students of various backgrounds with a strong foundation on the principles of financial management and financial decision-making tools. It is structured to impart to students the knowledge on the various factors and issues in making appropriate financial and investment decisions. The topics covered include financial markets, financial mathematics, valuation of securities, costs of capital and capital budgeting.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENT
Participants must have a minimum age of 16 years.

Academic level:
GCE O-Level passes or equivalent, or
9/10 years of school education or equivalent
English Language Proficiency:
Pass in English at GCE O-Level, or
IELTS 5.5, or
Pass in AEC English Proficiency Test, or equivalent
Matured learners above 21 years of age with secondary school education, and with 1 year relevant working experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
ASSESSMENT AND GRADING
At the commencement of each module, students will be provided the assessment mode and weightings for the module. Students are assessed based on a combination of formative and summative assessments in each module. A student is deemed to have completed a module when he/she successfully passed both written examination and assignment components.

GRADUATION CRITERIA
Students must successfully pass all prescribed modules (with the exception of exempted modules) in the programme with grades (Distinction, A, B+, B, C+, C, D+ or D) in order to graduate with a Higher Diploma in Accounting and Finance awarded by AEC College.
PROGRESSION PATHWAYS
Upon successful completion of this programme, graduates may progress to professional qualifications offered by bodies such as LCCI and ACCA as progression pathways.
