What is this course about?

This proposed programme will provide an opportunity for students to study for a one year Higher Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care. This programme is being offered as a direct response to the introduction of the free school year in Early Childhood Education and Care (ECCE scheme) by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs. This programme is designed for graduates of Social Care who are working in the Early Childcare sector and who do not hold the necessary qualification for the ECCE scheme. All successful applicants will have to complete 500 hours of Supervised Professional Practice as part of this Higher Diploma.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course, students should be equipped with sufficient knowledge and skills in early childhood education and care to enable them to make a professional contribution to early childhood education & care, nationally and internationally.

What are the minimum entry requirements?

To be eligible for consideration for this Higher Diploma in Early Childhood Education & Care, the applicant must hold a minimum Level 7 qualification in social care or its equivalent and be working in the early years sector.

All applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Lifelong Learning reserves the right to require applicants to attend for an interview to determine

Garda vetting is required for this programme.

Offers on this programme are conditional and could subsequently be withdrawn if applicants do not meet the Garda Vetting requirements.
