Course details
The course will provide a wide range of career opportunities.
- Designed to enable students to develop and animate 2 dimensional images.
- The course will provide an introduction to operating system design, implementation and operation.
- Learners will understand the role of database systems in information management; the fundamentals of relational database architecture and management systems and techniques for database application development.
- It will provide the skills and knowledge on computer programming fundamentals by developing object oriented programming skills and a theoretical knowledge of the principles of data structures and algorithms.
- It teaches communications and networking fundamentals, Internet technologies, basic security and configuring simple networks.
- Learners will create audio and video content and prepare that content for encoding and streaming to any supporting media such as the web, CD ROM and games engines.
In order to successfully enter this programme, Learners should have at least one of the following:
- A minimum of 5 passes (Grade D3 or better) in the Leaving Certificate (including English / Irish) and a minimum B3 in ordinary level or D3 in higher level Mathematics.
- QQI level 5 Major Award in Information Technology or International Equivalent to Leaving Certificate with the equivalent of a minimum B3 in ordinary level or D3 in higher level Mathematics.
- Non native English speakers should have evidence of an IELTS level 5.5 (or equivalent)
- For mature learners (i.e. age 23 and older), applications will be individually assessed in order to determine suitability through Dorset College’s ‘Recognition of Prior Learning’ policy.
