Course details
The Architectural Technologist is an important part of the design team and traditionally works with an Architect to apply the required technological expertise to realise the conceptual architectural design. This process requires wide and varied skills from the analysis of a physical structure to the factors that influence the design, material choices and energy-efficient performance of the building. If you enjoy problem solving and want to know how buildings go together in order to keep the heat in and the rain out then Architectural Technology is the course for you.
As a student of Architectural Technology you will be encouraged to appreciate the concepts of architectural design and apply technical design principles in the development of a building to meet the project brief, the regulatory requirements for the building and the performance requirements for environmental and energy efficiency. This knowledge is applied to your particular projects, which are examined across a number of modules to ensure a technically diverse and accurate outcome. The course has a strong work ethic which encourages students to interact closely and, in so doing, make life-long friends and colleagues.
Programme Modules
The core modules of Detail and Design Studies, Computer-Aided Drawing (CAD) and Architectural Technologies are delivered throughout the two years of the programme. Modules in Mathematics, Construction Materials, Surveying and Structural Mechanics, Conservation and History of architecture are also delivered in years one and two. Project work and other assignments form a substantial part of the coursework. Learners are expected to deliver completed projects from the given briefs throughout the programme.
