Course details

Civil engineering technicians help civil engineers plan and oversee the construction of roads, buildings, bridges, dams, wastewater treatment systems, and other structures. As a civil engineering technician, you will have a creative, diverse and challenging career and will be typically part of a team providing technical support to civil engineers on projects. The programme also provides a good basis for future study in civil engineering.

Programme Modules

This higher certificate course aims to develop your technical and practical knowledge of the core modules applicable to civil engineering. Group and individual projects play a large part in coursework and are designed to reflect ‘real life’ projects in the industry. The course covers a range of modules including Structural Design, Land Surveying, Construction Technology, CAD and Communication Skills.

Career Opportunities

Civil Engineering technicians are employed, both in Ireland and abroad by contractors, subcontractors, consultants, state and semi-state bodies, local authorities and suppliers of civil engineering products and equipment. You can expect to work in a technical capacity as a surveyor, draughtsperson, project supervisor or laboratory technician involved in testing materials and supporting companies in the civil/construction industry.
