Course details

This Higher Certificate offers targeted study of Archaeology. At IT Sligo our staff are engaged in a number of significant archaelogical investigations and they bring this expertise and experience to bear in this Higher Certificate programme.

If you have an interest in how people lived in the past, enjoy working outdoors and would like to work in a challenging and rewarding field, this is an ideal course for you. This course covers in detail the past 10,000 years of human activity in Ireland ranging from the nomadic hunter-gatherers of the Mesolithic era through to the later Medieval period, within a wider European context. The unique nature of this course emphasises scientific analytical techniques and applied field skills with lots of practical experience. It offers many unique modules not found on other courses, including forensic archaeology, geophysical survey, zooarchaeology and many others.

Entry Requirements

A science subject at Leaving Certificate is not a requirement for this course.

What are my further study opportunities?

Suitably qualified graduates may progress on to the final year of the Level 7 Ordinary Degree in Applied Archaeology.
