What is the Higher Certificate in Business about?

This course is designed to provide specialised knowledge and training for entry to a business career. Graduates from this course are capable of working in business, commerce and administration. It can serve as a foundation for Degree courses in Business Management, Accounting, Marketing, International Business and Supply Chain Management.

What will I be able to do when I finish the course?

At Certificate level graduates may expect to work as a Trainee Manager, Personal Assistant, Accounts Assistant, Customer services Assistant, Bank Official, Sales Representative. There are also an increasing number of openings in Financial Services.

What follow-on study opportunities are available?

Students who graduate from this course will be eligible to progress to Year 3 of:

  • Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Business (CW908)
  • Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Marketing (CW838)
  • Bachelor of Business (Honours) in International Business (CW828)
  • Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Supply Chain Management (CW918)
  • Bachelor of Business (Honours) (CW018) (Wexford)
  • Or progress to Year 2 Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Accounting (CW948).

What are the minimum entry requirements?

Leaving Certificate: 5 subjects at Ordinary Level Grade D3 or better.

Subjects required: English or Irish at Ordinary Level Grade D3 or better and Mathematics at Ordinary Level Grade D3 or better.

Mature applicants will be interviewed and assessed on an individual basis.

Special features of the course

A wide range of elective subjects allow students to tailor the course to suit their own academic strengths with a foundation of the knowledge and skills required for the commercial environment. A tutoring system helps students to settle in to the course and also helps students with any problems that may arise during their time in the Institute.
