What is the Higher Certificate in Business with Law about?

This 2 year Higher Certificate in Business with Law offers students the opportunity to receive a basic undergraduate education in both business and law. On successful completion of this course, graduates will have a wide array of career and further study options open to them.

What will I be able to do when I finish the course?

Graduates while having core business skills, will have a knowledge and understanding of law as it applies to business. Graduates will also be eligible to continue their studies in this area by progressing onto the third year of the honours degree in Business with Law (CW938). Graduates can also transfer to Year 2 of the Honours Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) (CW708). The marriage of the traditional analytical and logical attributes commonly associated with law graduates, to the applied business skills and competencies proposed in this course, will ensure the emergence of multi skilled graduates from this course. Graduates will have choice of career in either mainstream business areas or in legal careers.

Graduates can progress to study either or both of these disciplines at Ordinary Degree Level 7 and Honours Degree Level 8 either nationally or internationally.

What are the minimum entry requirements?

Leaving Certificate: 5 subjects at Ordinary Level Grade D3 or better.

Subjects required: English or Irish at Ordinary Level Grade D3 or better and Mathematics at Ordinary Level Grade D3 or better.

Mature applicants will be interviewed and assessed on an individual basis.

Special features of the course

This course has considerable flexibility in that graduates after year 2 have the opportunity if they so wish to transfer into the Honours Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) (CW708) or the Bachelor of Business (Hons) Business with Law (CW938). Graduates can also transfer into other business streams either at IT Carlow or other third level colleges.
