Course details

The aim of this workshop is to introduce participants to the principles of facilitating, teaching and learning and to understand how adults learn. To be able to recognise opportunities to learn and teach, what approaches to adopt, qualities and facilitation skills needed. Be able to research & deliver a presentation, facilitate discussion or article review, present case scenario to other colleagues, students and other learners and evaluate your teaching.

On completion of this workshop participants will be able to:

  • Identify key opportunities to learn, teach, facilitate learning within your workplace
  • Understand learning and teaching theories –how and why adults learn
  • Ascertain own learning styles and learning strategies/methods that may benefit each style
  • Identify the abilities, qualities and skills required by a facilitator to facilitate adult learning
  • Recognize own concerns/ fears in delivering a presentation or having a discussion on a topic for example -journal club, presenting a case study, ward lectures/seminars
  • Choose the most appropriate teaching method and prepare a teaching session
  • Have the necessary presentation skills and deliver a session
  • Evaluate your teaching

Please bring a presentation, article or case scenarios to the workshop. At the end of workshop using the information gained in the programme, you will be asked to deliver a 5 minute presentation. This could be PowerPoint presentation you are working on, an article you have to prepare for discussion or case scenarios that you have to present in your workplace.
