This programme module aims to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to promote and maintain safety and health in a work environment.

  • The learner will be supported in achieving an awareness of safety and health issues in the workplace.
  • The tutor will assist the learner in becoming familiar with the responsibilities and duties of the employer and employee with regard to health and safety.
  • The learner will be facilitated in developing skills in identifying hazards and carry out risk assessments and will be supported in identifying the relevant national legislation and statutory bodies.

Entry Requirements / Prerequisites:

  • As this study programme is delivered through distance learning, students must be capable of studying on their own initiative.
  • As an assistance to students new to distance learning, we provide, without charge, a study guidelines manual which many students find most helpful.
  • Students must be competent in both written and spoken English.
  • If you take this course by distance learning the course material will be posted to you. You can complete and return assignments/projects which must be typed rather than handwritten either by post or by email.
  • If you take this course by eLearning you will need basic IT skills and have access to broadband.

Assessment

  • This course is assessed through a combination of assignment and exam based.
  • Students taking this module will have to sit an examination (€50.00) that is normally held in Dublin but arrangements can be made in outside centres around the country. This can be paid before exam dates and is not required upon enrolment.
  • As part of our quality assurance, student assessment work will be marked by an Internal Assessor, validated by a Verifier with an independent QQI External Authenticator to complete the process.
