Welcome to the world of Hairdressing through FETAC and the Department of Education and Skills! Hairdressing is an exciting fast-moving career with fashion trends emerging each season. The Hairdressing skills and knowledge you will learn here are of recognised qualifications in Hairdressing. Training is provided in a fully equipped hairdressing salon. There are endless possibilities for career paths, which can take you in many directions.

Award

Successful completion of Hairdressing, will result in a FETAC/QQI Level 5 Certificate in Hairdressing, 5M3351, and a Junior Trades Certificate, certified by the Department of Education & Skills.

Successful Students may progress to Hairdressing, Year 2, which would result in a Department of Education & Skills Certificate in Senior Trades Hairdressing.

Communications

Students will learn a variety of communication skills including oral presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint, discussion & negotiation skills, internet & e-mail skills as well as structured report writing, document preparation and non-verbal communication techniques.

Work Experience

Each student will develop their job seeking skills to secure work experience one day per week in a salon. Students will be trained in CV preparation an interview skills, and will be required to research employment legislation as part of their assessments. They will also be required to undertake a career investigation in their vocational award area.

Hairdressing Theory & Practice

This module aims to introduce students to hairdressing as a career, to make students proficient in basic hairdressing skills and to equip them with the theoretical knowledge to support these skills.

Hairdressing Science

This module aims to equip students with an understanding of the scientific principles underlying hairdressing and to encourage students to develop safe and hygenic salon work practices.

Customer Service

This module is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills to work as a front line representative in any organisation. This is particularly relevant to working in a salon.

Safety & Health at Work

This module is designed to provide the learner with the skills and knowledge to promote and maintain safety and health in the working environment. Emphasis will be placed on safety within a Hairdressing Salon.

Retail Selling

This module hopes to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence in retail selling in order to apply best practice to the sales process. Students will have numerous role play opportunities to facilitate them to gain a better understanding of the retail environment. Their work placement will also enhance their opportunity to copper fasten their knowledge and understanding of the world of retail selling.

Progression

Students have the opportunity to progress to our Level 6 Senior Trades Certificate Course, certified by the Department of Education and Skills. For further information.
