Course details
GWO First Aid aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to effectively administer first aid in the remote wind turbine environments. The course approved by the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) and is designed for personnel working on onshore and offshore wind turbines.
Course Syllabus
- Personal safety and the responsibilities of the first aider
- Hazards on wind farms and potential injuries
- Function, normal signs and symptoms of serious and minor injuries and illnesses
- Practical first aid skills
- Correct use of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)
- Management in an emergency situation in a Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) environment
Course Assessment
Practical and written
Certification
Global Wind Organisation certificate valid for 2 years from assessment date. Cardiac First Response (Irish Heart Foundation and PHECC) certificate is available which is valid for 2 years from assessment date.
Refresher Training
Candidates undertaking refresher training for GWO First Aid must undertake training and re-assessment before the expiry date of their current GWO First Aid certificate. GWO First Aid refresher training and re-assessment is conducted in 1 day (8 hours)
Admission Requirements
Those attending should be medically and physically fit to carry out the practical part of the course and free from medical contra-indications that may prevent them from working safely (A list of conditions that could affect practical safety training is available on request). Course participants will be required to self-certify their medical and physical fitness before commencement of the course. Participants should be fluent in English and aged 18 years or over.
