    The Graduate Diploma in Professional Artist is a programme preparing students for further studies in music with emphasis on practical training and holistic professional musicianship.

    This full-time course consisting of 2 semesters is built around the student's Main Study. During the course, students have ample opportunities to accumulate valuable performing experience in ensemble work by opting for Chinese Ensemble, String Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, or Vocal Ensemble as appropriate to their Main Study. In addition, such students will also be given opportunities to lead Ensembles whilst at the College.

    Students may also be selected for the External Diploma Examinations of ABRSM/Trinity/Guildhall/LCM at levels appropriate to their performing ability. These Diplomas demand professional standards of performance and musicianship, beyond that of a final year Advanced Diploma in Music recital.

    WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?

    Students will undergo rigorous training in three big areas: Performance, Musicianship and Enrichment. These compulsory upon completion, will enable the student to enroll directly into the Bachelor Degree (Honors) programme at the University Of West London (UWL).

    COURSE OUTCOME

    Graduates from the course will receive a Graduate Diploma in Professional Artist conferred by SRMC, and have a performance proficiency equivalent to the London College of Music (LCM)/Trinity Guild Hall/ABRSM Associate Diploma or better in their chosen principal study, and a music theory proficiency equivalent to the London College of Music (LCM)/Trinity Guild Hall/ABRSM Diploma or better.

    ENTRY REQUIREMENT

    • At least 19 years old
    • Advanced Diploma or Foundation Degree or its international academic equivalent
    • Theory - Pass Placement Test
    • Practical - Pass Audition
    • Have IELTS score of 5.5 or other equivalent (see below English Language Requirements)

    AUDITION

    All applicants for this course are required to attend an interview and audition to ascertain their proficiencies in the following areas:

    All applicants to this course will be interviewed or auditioned. For the audition, the following should be prepared based on your main study instrument.

    For Instrumentalists

    10 - 12 minute performance consisting of two contrasting pieces, followed by sight reading tests (Sight reading test not applicable for video recorded audition)

    For Singers

    10 - 12 minute performance of three songs, followed by sight singing tests (Sight singing test not applicable for video recorded audition)

    For Composers

    Submission of a portfolio of works prior to an interview

    INTERVIEW

    An interview with an appointed SRMC assessor on general music knowledge and awareness.

    ENGLISH REQUIREMENT

    To meet the English Language requirement, any of the following qualifications are acceptable:

    • The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) administered by the British Council, is the test preferred by the College. OR
    • GCE 'A' Level English Language - Grade C or above
    • SRMC's English Placement Test
    • Other English Language Proficiency Tests (TOEFL etc) will also be considered (on a case-by-case basis)

    COMMENCEMENT DATE

    SRMC has the right to cancel a class/an intake if the minimum number of students enrolled is less than 10 for any course per class. Students may enroll into a later intake, if any, or withdraw from course.

    One week before the commencement date of studies, an induction session will be conducted. The students will be briefed by the Academic Staff on full details of the course including scheme of work, timetable, assessments and grading, assessment and exam dates and venue and many other academic matters.

    EXAMINATION PERIOD

    The final examination is held during the two weeks after the semester ends. The detailed assessment schedules can be found in the inpidual course syllabi.

    ASSESSMENT METHOD

    Continuous assessment comprises tests, quizzes, assignments, projects, presentations, participations and activities which are scheduled throughout the semester.

    GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

    The successful graduate must pass the assessment requirements for each module in order to gain modular credits based on the following schedule:
