    Program Objectives

    The course aims to teach students the necessary computing and business skills to support the implementation and maintenance of enterprise resource planning systems and an understanding of the implications these types of systems have on a business.

    The program consists of 7 core units and 1 elective:

    Core units:

    BCO6653 Management of Information Technology 

    The aim of the unit of study is to impart knowledge and develop competencies in the management of information technology. The major topics are drawn from: a framework for the management of information technology, the strategic use of information technology, information technology planning, business continuity planning/disaster recovery planning, information technology architectures, change management and IT, investment in IT and risk management, network usage policies, organization of IT, global aspects of IT management, ecommerce and IT management.

    BCO6656 Information Technology Project Management 

    This unit aims to give Information Systems and Management students an appreciation of the importance of a thorough understanding of contemporary project management techniques, both technical and human. It concentrates on both the management of IT projects and the use of computer software in the management of these and other projects. It also aims to show how knowledge of the appropriate application of such skills is becoming vital to Information Systems professionals and managers in the performance of their many functions in an organization.

    BAO6714 Computerized Accounting in an ERP Systems (SAP FI) 

    The aims of this unit of study are to demonstrate the use of integrated information systems in medium to large size organizations and to demonstrate how these systems facilitate the production of accounting information. Students will develop sound theoretical knowledge of the use of ERP systems, in conjunction with competency in the practical use an ERP system to facilitate financial and management accounting. Topics include: overview of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, general ledger, financial reporting and management reporting in an ERP system; hardware/software acquisition alternatives; control in an ERP information system, and accounting evaluation of an ERP implementation.

    BMO6603 Enterprise Resource Planning Systems

    This unit of study investigates the use of integrated computer-based information systems, commonly referred to as Enterprise Resource Planning systems, designed to support a large organisation's information needs. This unit considers issues associated with the analysis, design and implementation of such systems and investigates how such systems implement transaction processing, management information systems and executive information systems across an organisation's various business processes.

    BMO6506 Work and Organisation Systems 

    This unit of study examines the major organizational system issues that managers need to understand and respond to in the context of significant changes in the world. These issues are considered in terms of the interaction between people and the organizational context within which they work. The unit of study emphasizes two approaches. First, to gain knowledge and understanding of human behavior and organizational systems/structures through applied learning opportunities and, in the process, learn how to be a more effective leader and manager. Fundamental concepts about organizations, inpiduals and groups in relation to leadership and management are themes included. Second, because reflective practice is at the heart of critical thinking, students will be asked to take a critical approach to their practice, and the context in which they work.

    BCO5501 Business Process Engineering

    The unit of study is concerned with the strategic and organisational issues of process management and the use of Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (ERPs) to realise efficient processes. Designing and implementing efficient business processes can provide important strategic advantages for businesses. This unit of study will describe the major strategic approaches' used to understand, analyse and implement efficient business processes. Workflow modelling techniques, process modelling techniques and procedure models will be presented and practiced. SAP R/3, as an example of Enterprise Application Software, will be used to examine the issues that students are likely to encounter in identifying, reorganising and implementing processes in a typical business organisation.

    BCO5651 Enterprise Resource Planning Systems Implementation 

    The aims of this unit of study are to provide students with an understanding of the basic methodologies, techniques and tools that are used in the implementation Enterprise Resource Planning Systems using SAP R/3 as an example. It also addresses the issues that need to be considered for successful implementation. Topics include: ASAP Project life cycle, Implementation strategies, Change Management, Data conversion, Implementation Testing, Implementing project reporting.

    BMO6630 Business Research Methods 

    To be successful organizations not only need to base their business decisions on evidence but also know how to collect and analyze this evidence in a cost effective manner. This unit of study will enable the student to understand the principles involved in planning and executing a research project, conceptualise a research problem and to assess it in the context of current knowledge on the subject, operationalize concepts to formulate and to test hypotheses, develop or select appropriate measurement instruments for data collection and hypotheses testing, understand the principles for collection and analysis of data and other information and write reports and review the results of research

    BCO5647 Application Programming Techniques (SAP ABAP)

    The aim of the unit of study is to extend the knowledge of introductory programming techniques; provide students with practical experience in programming with an emphasis on commercial applications with a business oriented language; introduce students to data structures. Topics include: key features of the programming language in use; structured tools and techniques; data manipulation; report generation; file structures; interactive processing.

    JES0001 Material Management

    This unit will develop knowledge and concepts and issues related to the use of Materials Management in ERP and. It will teach trainees about major features of procurement such as determination of procurements, source determination, vendor selection, purchase order processing and monitoring. The trainees will also learn inventory management transactions such as goods receipt, goods issue, and goods transfer and Vendor Invoice verification.

    JES0002 Sales and Distribution 

    This unit develop knowledge and concepts and issues related to the use of Sales and Distribution in ERP. It will teach trainees about major features of presales, sales order preparation, Delivery processing, picking and shipping of the materials to the customers and billing the customers. The trainees will also learn enterprise structure with respect to sales and distribution

    Assessment

    Assessment is predominantly project and laboratory based. Some units have an examination.

    Entry Requirements

    After completing BGEP, candidates who wish to proceed to a Masters course can seek enrolment in the Master of Business (Enterprise Resource Planning Systems) awarded by Victoria University. Upon enrolment into this program, candidates will receive 8 unit exemptions and be required to undertake a further 8 units to graduate with this masters.

    Upon completion of the following units, students will, in addition to the Victoria University master award, receive the important industry certifications: SAP Alliance Certificate, awarded jointly by Victoria University and SAP Australia:

    Education Pathway

    After completing this course, candidates who wish to proceed to a Masters course can seek enrolment in the Master of Business (Enterprise Resource Planning Systems) awarded by Victoria University. Upon enrolment into this program, candidates will receive 8 unit exemptions and be required to undertake a further 8 units to graduate with a Masters DegreeTo qualify for the VU award of Graduate Diploma of Business ( Enterprise Resource Planning Systems ) students must pass all 8 course units listed above..

    Students undertaking this Diploma course may alternatively opt for an early exit upon the successful completion of

    • Four approved units to satisfy the requirements of Graduate Certificate in Enterprise Resource Planning Systems. (BCO6603, BCO5651,BCO5647 and One Elective as mentioned in the course and Unit Structure table)

    Prerequisite

    Students should complete Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (BCO6603) before enrolling in Enterprise Resource Planning Systems Implementation (BCO5651)
