The General Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR, is the replacement of the Data Protection Act 1998, which brought the previous EU Data Protection Directive into force in the UK. It's a European Union regulation coming into force from 25 May 2018 that governs the use of personal data belonging to EU citizens and it will govern how personal data is used in the UK.
This training course gives you a brief introduction to the GDPR including the main elements that organisations must be aware of. It is aimed at anyone looking to understand the requirements for processing data under the GDPR and consider its impacts.
With a basic understanding of the regulation, an organisation can begin to understand the areas of the regulation that will affect them, and specifically where they need to delve deeper into the requirements to determine what changes will need to be made for their business.
Organisations need to be ready to follow the new regulations or face the possibility of investigation and possibly fines from their jurisdiction's regulator. In the UK the regulator is the Information Commissioner's Office (The ICO). You may think an investigation is unlikely, but it only takes one unhappy customer to make a complaint and bring the spotlight onto you.
This course will help you to understand the areas that may affect you.
