Course details
This course will provide students with a thorough practical knowledge of Horticulture, Landscape Design, Garden Maintenance and Plant Propagation making it the perfect programme to gain employment with Landscapers, Public Parks, Nurseries and Garden Centers. It also facilitates progression to Horticulture Programmes at Level 6.
Course Requirements
Leaving Cert/Leaving Cert Applied or its equivalent. For mature students, experience will be considered in lieu of formal qualifications. Suitability for this course will be assessed at interview

Work Placement
Practical experience is an integral part of the course. The College has established the following practices to enhance learners’ exposure to horticulture:
- Exposure to Landscape Design projects
- Weekly garden maintenance in different locations throughout the year
- Participation in Real Landscape projects with a professional landscaper
- Regular experience growing vegetables in college Allotment
- Several talks by professionals throughout the year
- College trips to include Nurseries, Botanical Gardens, Private Gardens, Hook Head etc
Career Opportunities
A wide variety of employment opportunities exist in Domestic Landscaping, Private Gardens, Public Parks and Nurseries and Garden Centers
Progression
Graduates who achieve the required standard may progress to further studies in the National Botanic Gardens, Dublin Institute of Technology Blanchardstown or to a degree programme in Horticulture, Landscape Architecture or Botany.
