Fundamentals of Problem Solving and Decision Making

Course details

We are all faced with problems. Solving them effectively is an essential skill and is important for both the personal level as well as at work.

In this workshop, participants will learn the fundamentals of problem solving and decision making which include defining the root problem, analysing the problem, selecting and developing a solution as well as evaluating the implemented solution.

This fundamental framework provides organisational methodology and consistency to problem solving and develops individual team member’s critical thinking skills.

Programme Objectives

At the end of programme,participants should be able to:

• Define a problem in detail before starting to resolve it
• Find the root cause of a problem before investing in expensive solutions
• Develop and evaluate solutions to resolve a problem
• Develop a set of well-balanced criteria for evaluating of options
• Ask incisive questions to collect and analyse information

Programme Outline

1. Anticipate and identify problems
2. Verify and collect information in order to identify exact problem
3. Analyse a problem and know the differences between symptoms, causes and effects of problems
4. Facilitate group effort to resolve the problem through effective generation of ideas
5. Evaluate and produce alternative solutions to solve the problems
6. Use logical reasoning or creative problem solving techniques to solve the problem
7. Make decisions and take responsibility for decisions that will effectively solve the problem
8. Review the implemented solutions
